Mandarins

General information about the mantarins

The mandarin (Citrus reticulata, C. Clementine, C. deliciosa) is a small evergreen fruit tree and belongs to the citrus. Its maximum height in full growth can reach six meters, with a diameter of three meters. It has very dense foliage of small, oval, leathery, glossy and deep green leaves.

It blooms in spring and summer with small, intensely fragrant white flowers. The mandarin prefers sunny and sheltered places from strong winds and frost. It grows in fertile soils, medium in composition, neutral to alkaline but not calcareous, with good drainage. Needs regular irrigation and regular fertilization. The annual pruning of the mandarin is also important in order to dilute its very dense foliage, in order to avoid grain infestations.
